Finely dice the carrots and onion. Peel the ginger with a small spoon and chop it very finely. Chop the chili.
Heat the olive oil in a pot and sauté the carrots, onion, and ginger for one to two minutes. Add the red lentils, tomato paste, chili, and garam masala.
Deglaze everything with the vegetable broth and let the soup simmer for about 15 minutes until the lentils are cooked through.
Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve.
